Dear Mrs. Boutilier, 

As the number of COVID - 19 cases rise in the United States, I believe that it is more important now than ever to wear masks and continue to social distance. For my capstone project, I am campaigning for wearing masks and social distancing, as a way to contain this pandemic and limit the spread of COVID - 19. Part of my campaign will be to create posters and graphics visually showing what 6 feet of social distancing looks like, as well as posters and visuals that will serve as reminders for people to wash their hands, keep their distance, and wear their masks. I will also be creating a short PSA video with Mrs. Zamorski’s Journalism class that will inform students about the importance of taking COVID - 19 safety precautions. Along with this, I will also be making a slideshow to inform other classes about the statistics, facts, and scientific evidence surrounding COVID - 19 and how it spreads.

My research question is the following: How can we inform the public about the importance of mask wearing and social distancing through using scientific research and looking at previous pandemics? I chose this question because I want to inform the public about why social distancing and wearing masks is crucial during pandemics, especially if we want to slow down the spread of the virus. I also wanted to look at previous pandemics and the way that they were handled to showcase why their methods may have failed or succeeded, and what we can do to change or better those methods. The artifacts I plan on collecting are pictures of the posters, graphics, and my slideshow as well as the video I will be creating.

As a nurse, she is aware of all the safety measures that need to be taken in order to limit the spread of COVID - 19. I believe that my learning stretch will be improving upon my public speaking skills.
